Milford Sound has only a few places to eat. The Blue Duck Café at the cruise terminal and Pio Pio restaurant at Milford Sound Lodge serve tasty meals with local foods like venison and seafood. If you stay on an overnight cruise, you’ll get dinner and breakfast. There’s no nightlife, but you can enjoy stargazing in the dark sky or watch animals early in the morning when it’s very quiet.
There is no public transport inside Milford Sound. Most people visit by coach tours from Queenstown or Te Anau, or drive themselves in rental cars. Shuttle services are also available for hikers. The road to Milford Sound (Highway 94) is very beautiful but can be tricky in winter, with snow and ice. Sometimes snow chains are needed. There are no taxis in Milford Sound, so plan your travel ahead carefully.
